Through dedication, unity, and cultural pride, Sunderland Chinese Unicorn Association continues to represent Chinese culture on both a national and international stage.

Our History

The Chinese Unicorn, also known as the Qilin (麒麟), is a mythical creature with a history dating back thousands of years in Chinese culture. It is regarded as a symbol of peace, prosperity, wisdom, and good fortune, and traditionally appears during times of harmony or celebration.

Unicorn (Qilin) dance has long been performed during important occasions such as Lunar New Year, temple festivals, and community celebrations. Unlike other traditional dances, Unicorn dance is closely connected with Kung Fu, requiring discipline, balance, coordination, and strong foundations in martial arts training.

Sunderland Chinese Unicorn Association(新特蘭麒麟堂) continues this tradition by combining authentic Unicorn dance techniques with structured Kung Fu practice, ensuring that both cultural meaning and physical discipline are preserved and passed on to future generations.

By performing both nationally and internationally, our association helps to keep this traditional art alive while sharing Chinese culture with communities around the world.
